- You need to have WiFi router that supports a 2 GHz channel (check here)
We are currently looking for applications in several parts of South East England.
You can check a map of all eligible areas here.
We are looking for up to 20 users in each area and will respond on a first come first serve basis if you meet all the requirements.
You will receive an email from us confirming that you have completed the signup form, which can be found here, and another email letting you know if you have been successful.

When you receive your sensor plug you will need to set it up, instructions can be found here.
You will get your first voucher when you have successfully set up the plug and sent us the relevant details.
We recommend putting the plug in a socket that is not used that often, but is also near your WiFi router.
You can check if your WiFi router supports a 2 GHz channel by following these instructions here.
Double check that you are connecting to the 2 GHz channel of your WiFi, and follow all debugging steps on the Kasa website, which can be found here.

Installation

The trial started in September 2022 and is being expanded throughout 2023 and 2024.
The only data that we are going to be collecting is the voltage in your house. Very simply voltage is the thing that pushes current through your house and enables your electrical appliances to work. The data that we are collecting will be stored anonymously in a secure manner.
The Smart Transformer is a replacement for a traditional transformer, which is a piece of hardware that converts the electricity transported in pylons into a voltage that is useable in your house. The Smart Transformer allows for very precise control of the voltage that gets delivered to your house.
This will allow the voltage in your local area to be optimised reducing losses in the system and ensuring the stability of the grid.
You are able to opt out of the trial at any time, and your data will be removed from our system.
Data will be stored according to GDPR regulation, and will be fully anonymised before stored into an encrypted database.

You will be paid using GiftPay vouchers which are accepted in 50+ stores across the UK and online, including; Amazon, Argos, Deliveroo, Sainsbury's, Tesco and many others.
You will receive the vouchers by email.
You will receive your first voucher when you set up the sensor plug, and then you will receive a voucher at the end of every month.
