Parts of South East England have been chosen as the location for a trial of innovative technology that will deliver electricity into your home in a smarter, greener and more efficient way - the ‘Smart Transformer’.
Amp X is working with the electric power utility UK Power Networks, who are installing several Smart Transformers throughout 2023 and 2024. This is significant as it will help us better understand how this system works and support the transition to an affordable & sustainable energy system.
We are looking for local volunteers in certain areas of South East England (check map here) who will install a sensor in a plug socket in their home in return for £30 then another £10 per month in online vouchers!
Note: this will not affect your current bills and any data collected will be for our research only.
Who is Amp X?
Amp X is a company working to accelerate the transition to low-cost renewable energy. We started in 2019 in Edinburgh and are owned by Amp Energy, based in Toronto, Canada and developing renewable energy solutions worldwide.
Who is UKPN?
UK Power Networks own and maintain electricity cables and lines across London, the South East and East of England and make sure power flows reliably, safely, and securely - all while tackling the climate crisis and meeting their customers needs.
How does the trial work?

Apply to the trial

➜ Have an active email address (so we can keep in contact and send you £££)
➜ Make sure your WiFi router supports a 2.4 GHz channel (check instructions on how to find it out here)

Receive a free sensor
Once you get selected for the trial we will get in contact with you to confirm your address and send you a free sensor plug.

Install your sensor
➜ Plug in your sensor plug
➜ Connect your phone to the plug’s WiFi
➜ Sign in to your home WiFi
➜ And that’s it! 🎉
